Ready for some new adventures? The Maui Dive Shop Advanced Open Water Program is a “hands on” course in which you learn while you dive. A variety of ocean dives and brief academic sessions will allow you to explore deep diving, night diving, underwater navigation, and boat diving. This program is a great way to explore new interests, develop new skills and fine tune your diving technique.

The Advanced Open Water Course is designed to provide the novice diver with a structured, well supervised, means to gain practical experience after Open Water Certification. The student will participate in 6 dives, usually accomplished in 2 days and complete 4 specialties. The specialties Maui Dive Shop includes in its Advanced Open Water Course include Boat, Deep, Navigation, and Night / Limited Visibility. This is a practical course with emphasis on actual diving skills and conditions. We encourage students to enroll in this class at any time, however, the Advanced Open Water Certification can not be issued prior to the completion of 24 logged open water dives.

Here is how to begin:

1. Sign up for your class in advance with Maui Dive Shop. Make payment for your class in order to reserve a space. Review the SSI Medical Statement with the store staff prior to signing up. If there are any medical conditions indicated by a “yes” on the medical statement you will need a Medical Release Form from the store for a doctor to sign before starting class.

2. Purchase your SSI Advanced Open Water student kit so that you can begin your program immediately. You will need to read the manuals for Underwater Navigation, Night Diving, Deep Diving, and Boat Diving and complete the knowledge reviews at the end of each chapter before the start of the first class. By completing the reading assignments you will ensure that the class progresses as scheduled at a comfortable learning pace.

3. Purchase your AOW equipment package at the special student discount of 20%. Each package includes a knife, compass, light, slate, and cyalume stick. These equipment items are required for participation in the SSI AOW program. If you need only a few of the AOW required items you will still receive a 20% discount. As an Advanced Open Water Certified Diver this equipment is essential for both safety and enjoyment in the variety of diving environments you will explore. Our store staff and your instructor will help you select equipment appropriate for your diving experiences.

4. Come to class ready for adventure! Wear your bathing suit and comfortable clothes for covering up in the air-conditioned classroom. Bring your Open Water Diver or equivalent certification card from any certification agency, activity voucher, student kit with completed knowledge reviews, personal gear (mask, snorkel, fins, boots, and timing device), logbook, dive tables, AOW equipment package, towel, sunscreen, and lunch or lunch money. You will need to provide your own transportation by car throughout each class day to travel between the dive sites and the classroom. A taxi or bicycle will not be adequate.

The SSI Advanced Open Water Diver kit includes the following SSI Specialty manuals and DVDs: Deep Diving, Boat Diving, Navigation, and Night / Limited Visibility.

AOW REQUIRED EQUIPMENT: $100.00-150.00 
The AOW equipment items are a knife, light, slate, compass and a cyalume stick or tank marker light. Students receive a 20% discount on a complete AOW equipment package or on these AOW equipment items purchased separately.

**Students must provide their own mask, snorkel, fins, boots, timing device, logbook, and dive tables.

PREREQUISITES:
Certification as an Open Water Diver, or Junior Open Water Diver (age 12 or older) from any certification agency. A parent’s or guardian’s signature is required on the first day of class for students who are minors.

SCHEDULE:
2 DAYS First day- usually 7:00AM to approx. 4:00PM & 6:00PM to approx. 9:00PM 
Second day- usually 7:00AM to approx. 4:00PM &r 6:00AM to approx. 9:00PM (Schedule may vary due to seasonal changes and boat schedule)

DISCOUNTS:
$84.95 TWO-TANK BOAT TRIP- Schedule a 2-tank boat trip with Maui Dive Shop within 1 week of class for a one time student rate of $94.95 + 15.00 equip. fee, regular rate $129.95 + 15.00.

10% ACTIVITY DISCOUNT- As a student you will receive a 10% discount on activity bookings within 2 weeks with Maui Dive Shop. Activity combo discounts and complete activity packages are available at all Maui Dive Shop locations. Some of the activities available include snorkeling trips, dinner cruises, horseback rides, parasailing, helicopter tours, luaus, Haleakala bike rides and much more.
