The underwater world of Maui is waiting for you. You don’t have to be a certified diver to TRY SCUBA. Our experienced instructors will use SSI’s tried and true TRY SCUBA Diving program to teach you the basic skills. In the classroom the instructor will introduce the equipment you will use, teach basic safe diving practices, and provide a fascinating marine life briefing. In shallow water you will practice and become comfortable breathing underwater before setting off on an exciting tour of the reef with your instructor’s expert guidance. Visit with green sea turtles and swim among a rainbow of tropical fish while you keep a lookout for special ocean residents like the octopus and manta ray.

Morning dives are offered from the shore in both South Maui and West Maui. Boat dives are offered on our afternoon charter off the Pali coastline. The introductory experience on the boat is better for those who are very comfortable in the water or who are doing a second or third introductory dive.

Here is how to begin:

1. Sign up for your introductory diving experience in advance with Maui Dive Shop. Make payment for the class in order to reserve a space. Review the SSI Medical Statement with the store staff prior to signing up. If there are any medical conditions indicated by a “yes” on the medical statement you will need a Medical Release Form from the store for a doctor to sign before starting the program.

2. Come to class ready for adventure! Wear your bathing suit and comfortable clothes for covering up in our air-conditioned classroom. Bring your activity voucher, towel, sunscreen, sunglasses, a snack and drinks if you like. The salt water does tend to make you thirsty.

3. You will need to provide your own transportation by car throughout the activity. A taxi or bicycle will not be adequate.
